Spotsy fire and rescue launches recovery effort at Lake Anna
Spotsylvania Fire and Rescue teams are searching Lake Anna for a 19-year-old man but are not expecting to find him alive. That man was reported missing at 3:03 p.m., said Battalion Chief Jeff Carter. At the time, the man had last been seen about 30 minutes earlier in a paddle boat. That boat was found floating in the water, but the occupant was nowhere to be seen, Carter said.
Officials from the fire department and the Sheriff’s Office searched the shoreline but didn’t find the man. The rescue teams are transitioning from a rescue effort to a recovery, Carter said. The fire, rescue and emergency management department’s dive team is in the water–and divers from Fredericksburg are on the scene, with a dive team from Falmouth on its way. A boat from Falmouth is already in the water, as are boats from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office and the fire department.
