Police: Quantico woman fabricated story of robbery at Walmart in Stafford County
By KEITH EPPS
A 22-year-old Quantico woman has been accused of fabricating a robbery that she said occurred at a Walmart in Stafford County last month, police said.
Elaine Victoria Quinn is charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor charge that carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said the woman told police she was robbed late April 17 in the parking lot of the Walmart at 217 Garrisonville Road in North Stafford.
According to the story, she was just beginning to load her purchased items into her car when a man approached and said “give me your wallet,” Kennedy said.
The woman said at first she told the man no, but handed over the wallet after the man threatened to kill her infant child, who was in a car seat attached to the cart, according to the initial report.
The man took items from the wallet and took off running, the woman told police.
Detective Barry Surles investigated the case and determined that Quinn had made up the entire story. Kennedy did not say what led Surles to that conclusion and said he does not know why such a story was made up.
Quinn was arrested Friday and has an initial court appearance scheduled for May 24 in Stafford General District Court.
