Man charged with weapons, drug offenses
A Spotsylvania man was jailed on multiple felony charges late Friday after police found a gun and drugs on him during a search that he consented to, police said.
The incident started about 10:30 p.m. after police received a report about suspicious activity near an apartment building in the 2300 block of Cowan Boulevard in Fredericksburg, police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.
A resident reported that the two men appeared to hide every time somebody drove by.
A city officer drove by and noticed the same behavior, Bledsoe said. Police checked on the two men and got permission to search. They found a stolen handgun and prescription pills on one of them, Bledsoe said.
Zanell Miller, 32, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon as a felon, possessing a firearm after being convicted of a violent felony, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of illegal drugs and possession of illegal drugs while in possession of a firearm. Miller was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
Miller was convicted of unlawful wounding last year in Stafford Circuit Court and was ordered to serve three months in prison, court records show. The second man was released with no charges, Bledsoe said.
