Winter refuses to yield to spring.
The second March snow in the last two weeks provided the western parts of Culpeper, Madison, Fauquier and most of Rappahannock County with a light blanket of snow Sunday afternoon and night.
The snow began as rain around noon but quickly changed to snow, picking up in intensity about 2:30.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory early Sunday afternoon for perhaps as much as two inches of wet, slushy snow by Monday morning. The precipitation is expected to change back to rain later Monday.
With temperatures reaching into the mid-60s Saturday, most hard-surfaced roads contained enough radiational heat to melt the flakes on contact.
