Culpeper teens face charges in house fire
Two teenagers have been charged with setting a Feb. 2 fire that destroyed an abandoned house along State Route 3 and the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks just east of Culpeper.
The 13- and 14-year-old boys, who, according to witnesses at the scene, live in a nearby neighborhood, were charged this week with felony destruction of property and misdemeanor charges of setting a fire capable of spreading, trespassing on railroad tracks and unlawful entry.
Smoke from the fire, located at one of the highest points within the town of Culpeper, could be seen for miles on a snowy evening.
The house, originally a residence and later an office for Culpeper Stone Co., had been abandoned for some years.
Town police Sgt. Jeff Dodson, Lt. Andrew Terrill and Detective Luke Altman handled the investigation.
The two boys were not detained.
