Spotsylvania County authorities have abandoned the investigation that began Monday morning when four people were found injured following a reported brawl at a county motel.

Lt. Troy Skebo said police have closed the case with no charges because all four victims refused to cooperate with detectives. Three of them suffered stab wounds.

The victims have all been released from the hospital and have returned to their out-of-state homes, Skebo said.

Skebo said what little information police had was turned over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office and the decision was made not to seek charges.

“[The victims] gave us a lot of attitude but no information,” Skebo said.

Deputies responded to reports of a large fight in progress at 9:18 a.m. Monday at the Days Inn in the 5300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.

Witnesses told police that between 10 to 20 people were involved in the altercation, but when police arrived about a minute later only the four victims—three men and a woman—were at the scene.

Three of the victims had been stabbed, and one man had a head wound. All were treated at Mary Washington Hospital.

Skebo said police were not sure why the combatants were in the area or what started the altercation.
