Power outage updates
Although electricity has been restored to many Fredericksburg area homes and businesses, thousands were still without power as of Thursday afternoon. One unofficial report estimated that most outages would be restored by sometime Thursday night.
Nine people whose homes were without heat and power spent Wednesday night at the Culpeper County emergency shelter at the Salem Fire Department. That shelter was opened Wednesday when the county declared a state of emergency during the snowstorm, which dumped as much as a foot of snow on parts of the county.
Orange County officials say no one stayed at the shelter the county set up last night in the town of Orange, so they shut it down at noon today.
Here is a rundown of outages by locality from Dominion Virginia Power, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, Northern Neck Electrical Cooperative, and NOVEC as of about about 12 a.m. Friday.
NOVEC, which has four area residents still in the dark, says it hopes to have power back on for all of its customers by Thursday night. Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, which had a total of 70,000 customers lose power, said all of them should have their electricity back by end of Sunday. All Northern Neck Electrical Cooperative customers had their electricity on by Thursday night.
