An ill-timed snooze late Saturday night led to the arrest of a Stafford man.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Dustin Walker was on routine patrol about 11 p.m. when he noticed a person slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle in a parking space at the Wawa on Eustace Road in North Stafford.
A resident told Walker that the man had been there for a while and hadn’t moved at all.
Walker was initially unable to rouse the man, but finally got him to look up.
Kennedy said the man was “glassy eyed” and had slurred speech. He handed the deputy a Wawa gift card when asked for identification.
A synthetic form of marijuana known as “Spice” was found during a search of the man.
Jonnathan Rowan, 24, was charged with possession of synthetic cannabinoids and public intoxication. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $3,500 bond.
Court records show that Rowan was arrested on the same charges Jan. 13 in Stafford. A court date is scheduled for April on those charges.
