No crimes committed in door-to-door sales
Stafford County authorities believe they have identified a group going door-to-door selling cleaning products and services, but they say no crime has been committed.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said deputies came upon a woman with a group of men Friday and found she had a permit to solicit door-to-door. The men do not have permits, he said.
“No one has committed a crime. No one has been charged. Nobody is casing houses,” Kennedy said.
A warning for residents to be on the lookout for a group going door-to-door was issued earlier this week after police received several calls from residents. There were a few reports in Spotsylvania County, as well.
Kennedy said residents should ask salesmen for solicitor’s permits, which are issued by the county. If they don’t have permits, residents should call the Sheriff’s Office at 540/658-4400.
