Bakery worker interrupts breakfast break-in
BY KEITH EPPS
A burglar had his early morning snack interrupted when an employee showed up for work at a downtown bakery Tuesday, police said.
Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the employee arrived at Eileen’s Bakery at 1115 Caroline St., at 4:45 a.m. and found the door partially open. Assuming that another employee was already inside, the woman started to go inside when the burglar alarm sounded.
The employee backed away from the door. Moments later, a man came out of the building and headed toward Sophia Street.
Police responded and found evidence that the intruder had been enjoying breakfast when the alarm went off.
Police also found damage to the door. It was not clear Tuesday if the alarm sounded when the door was first opened or whether anything was missing from the business.
Police searched the immediate area but did not find the intruder.
He was described as a white man in his 40s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was unshaven and was wearing blue pants, a gray pullover hoodie and a black jacket.
