Fire destroys Culpeper building
The cause of a fire that destroyed an abandoned structure in the Town of Culpeper late Saturday afternoon is under investigation. Firefighters say kids were playing in the building before the blaze broke out.
No injuries were reported.
Old Culpeper Stone Office Building, which was originally a residence, stood just north of State Route 3 on the east side of the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
Units from Brandy Station, Culpeper, Salem and Reva arrived on the scene around 5:30 p.m. during a light snow. The building was fully engulfed and is a complete loss.
The building is located on the highest point in the town and smoke could be seen for miles in every direction.
