Tractor-trailer crash shuts down I-95 exit at Route 3
An overturned tractor-trailer shut down the northbound Interstate 95 exit ramp to westbound State Route 3 in Fredericksburg on Thursday, leading to delays for traffic and a reckless driving charge for a North Carolina man.
The crash happened at about 10:30 a.m., when the big rig ran off the ramp, hit the guard rail and overturned, said Sgt. Les Tyler with the state police. He said speed was a factor and that the driver, 52-year-old Griffin Stanton Curtis, faces a reckless driving charge.
The tractor-trailer was hauling flower bulbs in a refrigerated unit, but no Freon leaked, according to Mike Jones, deputy chief with the Fredericksburg Fire Department. Diesel fuel did leak from the tractor-trailer and hazardous materials personnel had to clean up the site.
The ramp was reopened at about 12:15 p.m., Tyler said.
Curtis refused medical treatment at the scene, according to Jones.
