Fire damages Stafford boat repair shop
Stafford firefighters battled a blaze at a boat-repair shop in the Crane’s Corner Industrial Park on Friday evening, just off U.S. 1, north of the Centreport Parkway.
The 4:45 p.m. fire damaged the metal building at 28 Perchwood Drive and several boats inside, but Mark Doyle, assistant chief of Stafford County Fire and Rescue, said no one was injured.
When firefighters arrived, they had to force their way into the building, which was unoccupied at the time, said Doyle. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to boats outside the shop, said Doyle.
The fire was out in about a half hour, he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
The 3,600-square-foot building is owned by Synan Road Investors LLC of Stafford. The property is assessed at $842,500 for tax purposes. Doyle said the dollar amount of damage hasn’t been calculated yet.
Affordable Outdoors is the name of the company that is leasing the space, said Michael Colangelo, who owns the building along with John Janney and Phillip Atkins. Colangelo said in an email that the damage was considerable, but he is thankful nobody was hurt.
