Grafton Village Elementary students will go to Stafford Middle
Once again next school year, Stafford Middle School will host a group of elementary school students.
Last year, the middle school welcomed Falmouth Elementary School students while their building was renovated. This year, Stafford Elementary School students are at the middle school.
Next fall, Grafton Village Elementary School will undergo renovations, and those students will attend school at Stafford Middle.
The middle school is only at half capacity, making it a fitting temporary home for elementary school students.
Grafton Village renovations should begin in July and finish in May 2014, Scott Horan, superintendent of facilities for Stafford schools, said at a meeting Tuesday night.
The $12.1 million project will expand the library and update heating and air systems. The renovations will also include a new elevator, to replace the school’s current chairlift.
The project should be similar to the completed renovations at Falmouth Elementary and the ongoing work at Stafford Elementary.
To accommodate Grafton Village’s 569 students, the school division will have to add a bus route.
One bus currently makes two trips to Grafton, but Stafford Middle is farther away, so a single bus won’t have time to make two trips. Most students will see about 14 minutes added to their current time spent on the bus.
The school will hold a parent meeting on Jan. 24 to go over the new bus routes and other issues related to the renovations.
