Spotsy School Board revises expense rules

The Spotsylvania School Board passed its revised policy on board member expenses at this week’s meeting in a 6–1 vote with Ray Lora dissenting.

The policy now states that members may receive mileage for attending School Board meetings, assigned committee meetings and conferences.

In addition, the board chairwoman or vice chairman must approve all reimbursement requests before they are paid.

The board also reversed a decision from last March when it added a limit of two members attending any conference. It returned to an unlimited number.

Lora said he objected to the changes over concerns about spending taxpayer dollars.

At Monday night’s meeting, the board also unanimously elected its leadership for 2013. Amanda Blalock is the new chairwoman. Jim Meyer was elected vice chairman for the second consecutive year.
