Spotsylvania deputies investigate robberies

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery and an attempted armed robbery at two local convenience stores.

According to Capt. Jeff Pearce of the sheriff’s office, a white male walked into the FasMart gas station at 3530 Plank Road around 4:30 p.m.

The man pretended to be on the phone before walking up to the register displaying a small black handgun and demanded cash from the store clerk, Pearce said.

Before the clerk was able to comply, the man ran out of the store in an unknown direction, Pearce said.

No one was hurt and no money was taken. It is unknown why he ran, Pearce said.

Pearce said K-9 units on the scene attempted to track a scent, but were unsuccessful.

The man was described as being medium height and less than 200 pounds. He was clean shaven with reddish-blonde hair.

He was wearing blue jeans and a gray hoodie sweatshirt and had a black stalking mask over his face and a cap on.

Pearce said police are hoping to get more information from the store’s surveillance cameras.

Then around 9:50 p.m., deputies were called to the 7-11 in Salem Fields for a similar robbery.  A man got away with an undetermined amount of cash, Pearce said.

Pearce said the man had the same description, but different clothing. He said they are trying to determine if the two crimes are connected.
