Two Stafford schools locked down briefly
Two Stafford County schools were locked down briefly Friday while sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the area.
Garrisonsville Elementary and A.G. Wright Middle schools were closed down in the afternoon, according to Bill Kennedy, spokesman for the Stafford sheriff’s office. The two schools share a campus.
Kennedy said reports of shots fired are not uncommon during hunting season. Deputies who responded to the call heard no more shots and found nothing suspicious, Kennedy said.
When the lock down was lifted, schools were dismissed, he said.
“Everyone is a little anxious today,” said Kennedy, referring to the mass slayings by a gunman at a Connecticut school earlier in the day.
