Police searching for robbery suspect

A victim was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday while metal detecting in Spotsylvania County.

Spotsylvania deputies responded to the area of Gordon Road and Old Plank Road about 12:30 p.m. for a reported robbery, said Capt. Mike Harvey of the Spotsylvania sheriff’s office.

Harvey said the victim was metal detecting on land adjacent to the area and was approached by a man with a gun demanding money.

Harvey said the man fled on foot after the victim surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police tracking dogs attempted to locate the robber without success, Harvey said.

The robber is described as a black male approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt with a hood, Harvey said.
