Man hit, killed on Route 610

A Stafford man crossing Route 610 was hit by a car and killed Sunday night.

Alexander Smith, 71, was walking across the four-lane highway heading north, near the intersection with Novak Drive, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler.

A 2007 Suzuki SUV, driven by a 32-year-old Stafford man, was traveling westbound on Garrisonville Road in the right lane. Smith was struck around 10:55 p.m., Tyler said, and died at the scene from injuries in the crash.

There have been no charges and the accident is still under investigation.
