BY KATIE THISDELL
Two Stafford County households were displaced after fires damaged two homes in a 12-hour period.
The fires were reported Thursday night and Friday morning, and both were under control within five minutes, said Assistant Chief Mark Doyle. The causes of both are still under investigation, and no damage estimates are available.
The first happened at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at 141 Hulls Chapel Road in Hartwood. Crews from the Berea Station arrived in seven minutes and saw smoke coming out of the single-story home. The fire was located around the furnace, and it was quickly contained. One adult had been home at the time, and got out before crews arrived. The Red Cross offered assistance.
The second fire happened at 7:30 a.m. Friday at 717 Forbes St. Falmouth crews arrived within seven minutes and saw smoke coming from the attic. Two adults and one child got out of the building before the units arrived, and are now staying with family and friends, Doyle said.
