Man in connection with Caroline beating arrested
BY PORTSIA SMITH
A man wanted in connection to a brutal beating in Caroline County last month was arrested Monday.
Caroline Sheriff Tony Lippa said Al–Lahteef Salaam Jones, 31, of Richmond was apprehended Monday morning in Nottoway
County.
Jones is a suspect in an Oct. 9 incident in which a man was assaulted and robbed in the Carmel Church area, where he worked detailing vehicles.
The victim, James Simms, suffered a skull fracture and was in a coma for several weeks, Lippa said.
Jones and another man, 42-year-old Gregory A. Pollard of Partlow, are both charged with attempted homicide, malicious wounding and robbery.
According to a search warrant filed in Spotsylvania County, Simms was found on the ground by his mother suffering from major head trauma and was asking where his money was.
A witness told police that Jones made a statement about robbing someone that day before going to change his clothes, according to the search warrant.
Jones is being held in Pamunkey Regional Jail. He is also a person of interest in a Henrico County homicide, Lippa said.
Pollard is being held at an adult detention center in Fairfax County.
