Police identify man hit by train
The man struck and killed by a Virginia Railway Express train this week has been identified as James Michael Gullo, 44, of Woodbridge.
Prince William County police said Gullo died after stepping onto the tracks in front of the southbound commuter train about 7 p.m. Monday. The incident stranded commuters for up to three hours.
Gullo was pronounced dead at the scene, near Cherry Hill Road in Dumfries, according to authorities.
Prince William police said he “was seen standing on the tracks as a VRE train was approaching. The victim did not move out of the train’s path and was subsequently struck.”
It was the second time in less than a month that a person was killed after stepping onto the tracks in front of VRE trains.
Police believe both were suicides.
