Human remains found in Spotsylvania
By KEITH EPPS
Badly decomposed human remains were discovered Saturday afternoon in Spotsylvania County, police said.
Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Harvey said deputies and detectives went to the 9000 block of Brock Road about 1:30 p.m. after someone found remains on the Rappahannock Electric high-voltage power line right-of-way.
The remains were sent to the state medical examiner’s office, where Havey said police hope to get information regarding the person’s identity, race, gender and cause of death.
Depending on what is determined in Richmond, Harvey said police will compare the remains to missing-persons cases in the county and region in hopes of identifying the person. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 582-7115 or Crime Solvers at 582-5822.
It was the second time in less than three months that a badly decomposed body was found in the area. On Aug. 16, a truck driver who had stopped to urinate found a body in the woods off the northbound Interstate 95 off ramp leading to Courthouse Road in Stafford.
Police later learned those were the remains of Katherine Bryant of Washington, who was 33 years old when she was reported missing in July 2006. Foul play is suspected, but police have not made an arrest or determined if the victim had any connection to Stafford.
