Culpeper police arrest one man, look for another, in burglary

Culpeper police have one suspect in custody and continue to search for a second man who also allegedly broke into an unoccupied home on Scanlon Street about noon Thursday.
According to town public information officer Wally Bunker, police arrested 19-year-old Vincent Petros Crosland of Virginia Avenue but his alleged accomplice, 18-year-old Darsel Justin London of Broad Street, got away.
Both men are charged with felony breaking and entering, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to Bunker.
An alert citizen spotted the two men allegedly entering the house through a window and called police.
Town police and sheriff’s deputies, aided by tracking dogs and a helicopter, searched all afternoon from the Culpeper Country Club on the south side of town to Virginia Avenue west of Culpeper but were unable to locate London.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of London is asked to call Crime Solvers or contact Sgt. Jeff Dodson at 540/829-5526.
“We cannot thank the citizen who noticed the break-in in progress and called police enough for being proactive,” said police Chief Chris Jenkins. “The assistance from the sheriff’s office proved invaluable and was greatly appreciated.”
