A Spotsylvania County woman wanted in connection with a carjacking and abduction in Caroline County is in custody, police said.

Cheryl Ruedi

Cheryl Ruedi, 22, of the 4000 block of Twilight Lane turned herself in to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office late Wednesday afternoon, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar.

She was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where she was being held without bond pending her arraignment, he said.

Ruedi, along with 20-year-old Trent Brooks of Spotsylvania, were both wanted in connection with a Sept. 22 incident in Woodford where a 2006 Pontiac G6 ran through a stop sign and collided with a 1998 Dodge Durango around 6:30 p.m. The Pontiac was traveling east on Marye Road and the Dodge was traveling north on U.S. 1.

Molnar said the three people in the Pontiac were unhurt, but three of the five in the Dodge were taken to Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries.

As Trooper M.C. Hite was assisting the injured, a woman driving the Pontiac and a man in the back seat left the scene on foot, Molnar said. Witnesses reported seeing them get into a nearby pickup.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., the troopers at the crash scene in Woodford, south of Thornburg, were approached by a man who said two people had forced him to use his pickup to drive them away from the scene.

The driver said he drove the man and woman west on Marye Road for about half a mile, when the man ordered him to stop the truck. The two then ran from the truck into the woods, Molnar said.

The pickup driver told police that the man claimed to have a gun, Molnar said.

Ruedi faces several charges, including felony hit-and-run, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and failure to obey a highway sign, Molnar said. Ruedi is also wanted by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of grand larceny of a vehicle.

Brooks faces charges of abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, carjacking, hit-and-run, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm with an active protective order, brandishing a firearm, and assault, Molnar said. Brooks is also wanted by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of assault on a family member.

He was taken into custody late Sunday evening by Spotsylvania deputies without incident in the area of Twilight Lane, but not at home, Molnar said.
