Two sought in reported carjacking in Spotsylvania
By PORTSIA SMITH
Virginia State Police are seeking two Spotsylvania residents they say fled from an accident scene and then carjacked a nearby resident before escaping on foot.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Marye Road south of Thornburg, when the driver of a 2006 Pontiac G6 failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 1998 Dodge Durango, said State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar.
The Pontiac was traveling east on Marye Road and the Dodge was traveling north on U.S. 1, Molnar said.
Molnar said the three occupants in the Pontiac and two of the five occupants in the Dodge were uninjured. Three people in the Dodge were transported to Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries, he said.
Molnar said as Trooper M.C. Hite was assisting the injured, the female driver of the Pontiac and a male passenger in the backseat left the scene on foot. They were seen by witnesses getting into a nearby pickup truck.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., the troopers at the crash scene were approached by an adult male, who said he had been abducted by a man and a woman. The man told police that he was forced into his pickup truck by the man and was told to drive them away from the scene.
The man reported that they traveled west on Marye Road for about half a mile when the male ordered him to stop the truck. The two then ran from the pickup truck and fled into the woods on foot, Molnar said.
The man told police that the male suspect told him that he had a gun, Molnar said.
The female driver, Cheryl Ruedi, 22, of the 4000 block of Twilight Lane in Spotsylvania, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 125 pounds with green eyes and brown hair. Ruedi is charged with felony hit and run, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and failure to obey a highway sign. Ruedi is also wanted by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office for grand larceny of a stolen vehicle.
The male passenger, 20-year-old Trent Brooks, also of the 4000 block of Twilight Lane , is described as a black male, approximately 5’7″ inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Brooks is charged with abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, carjacking, hit and run, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm with an active protective order, brandishing a firearm and assault. Brooks is also wanted by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office in connection with an assault on a family member.
