Want to weigh in on issues, campaign? Get on C-SPAN bus
BY LINDLEY ESTES
Another campaign bus will be stopping in Fredericksburg Thursday, but this one isn’t endorsing a specific candidate.
C-SPAN’s Campaign 2012 Bus will stop at the University of Mary Washington’s Fredericksburg campus as part of a four-day tour of five Virginia colleges to hear from students and community members about the current election cycle.
The bus will park beside Lee Hall from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
C-SPAN representatives will encourage students and members of the community to share their thoughts about the presidential campaign during the stop.
Participants will be asked to comment on the presidential candidates and what they think are the most important issues of the election. Responses will be captured in 15-second videos via smartphone and shared instantly on various C-SPAN social media platforms.
Responses from the week-long election special also will be highlighted on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal program.
UMW professor and political analyst Stephen Farnsworth will be featured on Washington Journal from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. from a studio on the bus.
Farnsworth teaches political science at UMW and is the director of the school’s Center for Media and Leadership Studies.
He is an expert on the 2012 presidential election cycle as well as Virginia government and politics.
From 10:15 to 11:45 a.m., C-SPAN will also hold tours of the Campaign 2012 Bus. Participants can learn about the network’s Campaign 2012 website by viewing video of candidates and campaign events, information on key state races, the Electoral College and ways to follow social media related to the campaign.
The bus tour is open to the public at no charge.
