UMW will cover towing fees
University of Mary Washington officials blamed miscommunication for the towing of several vehicles from a lot set aside for parking for those attending the first lady’s appearance on campus Thursday.
UMW sent out an email Wednesday saying it was creating a designated parking area in the Eagle Village lot across U.S. 1 from the campus. Large signs with “event parking” in bold letters were posted at the entrance to the lot, but some drivers were apparently confused about which spaces in the shopping center were intended for the event.
Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said at least 10 cars were towed.
Rick Pearce, UMW’s vice president of finance, said the school would pay the towing fees.
“We regret the situation,” said said Anna Billingsley, UMW’s associate vice president of university relations.
