Update: Husband died of natural causes, police say
UPDATE: Virginia State Police issued a press release this afternoon that says Gary D. Cook died of natural causes, according to preliminary findings. (2:35 p.m.)
The husband of Patricia Cook, the 54-year-old woman shot and killed by a Culpeper town policeman Feb. 9, was found dead in his apartment Tuesday, state police said.
Gary Cook’s body was discovered by a maintenance man at the Friendship Heights Apartment complex. He was 62.
“At this stage of the investigation, it does not appear foul play was a factor in the man’s death,” Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said in a news release.
When asked if suicide was a possibility, Tyler responded, “I think you’re reading too much into it.”
Because it was an unattended death, an autopsy will be performed.
Former town police officer Daniel Harmond–Wright is scheduled to go on trial in January on a murder charge in Patricia Cook’s death.
