Crashes Result in Two Fatalities
State police reported two dead in separate crashes in Stafford and Fauquier Counties.
Phillip Oliver, 20, of Fredericksburg, was killed Saturday morning after his 2000 Toyota Camry ran off of the left side of Route 616 in Stafford through a curve, less than a mile south of Harwood Lane. The car struck a ditch, several mailboxes, overturned and then struck a utility pole.
Oliver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He died at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by state police at this time.
Todd W. Nichols, 28, of Bentonville, Va. died Friday evening at Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was flown after his 2011 Hyundai Accent ran off of Route 17 in Fauquier at 3:50 p.m. The vehicle, which was travelling north, struck a fence, a tree and then spun to hit a second tree.
Nichols was also not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The crash is still under investigation by police.
Both crashes involved a single vehicle.
