Spotsylvania man, 21, charged in thefts from vehicles

BY KEITH EPPS

A 21-year-old Spotsylvania man has been charged in recent larcenies from vehicles in the county.
Sheriff’s spokesman Mike Harvey said Deputy Jay Greene was conducting surveillance in the area of Farmstead Lane and Gordon Road about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he noticed a suspicious vehicle. Greene and Lt. Troy Skebo later stopped the vehicle and found evidence in the car tying a suspect to two recent larcenies from vehicles.
Police later got a search warrant for the suspect’s home and found property reported stolen in other larcenies and crimes, Harvey said. Electronics and cash are among the items that have been stolen.
Joshua Fields is charged with two counts of grand larceny and two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses. Harvey said the investigation is ongoing.
Harvey said the arrest was a result of “Operation Out of Sight,” a sheriff’s office initiative aimed at reducing vandalisms and thefts from vehicles in county neighborhoods.
Tips from residents helped deputies investigate this case, Harvey said.
Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s Office and to keep their vehicles locked and valuables out of plain view.
