University of Mary Washington graduate and former Fredericksburg resident Courtney Paulk is nearing the end of the second leg of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
The Richmond lawyer is about two miles off the coast of England as she completes her swim across the English Channel.
The Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming consists of the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (28.5 miles around Manhattan), the Catalina Channel (21 miles between Catalina Island and the mainland of California) and the English Channel (21 miles from Dover, England, to
Cap Gris Nez, France).
As of 2011, only 48 people are known to have completed the Triple Crown. Paulk completed the first leg of her journey, the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, on June 18, 2011. She began swimming the English Channel early this morning.
