Overnight crash snarls I-95 traffic in Caroline

The driver of a dump truck that caused an overnight crash that led to lane closures on Interstate 95 in Caroline County this morning is charged with reckless driving.

According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar, State Police responded to an incident involving a dump truck that struck the overhead power lines as crews were attempting to lay asphalt in the area around 2 a.m.

The power lines came down across all lanes of Interstate 95, he said. Two vehicles traveling northbound also struck the power lines, Molnar said.

William Zimmerman, 39, of the 7000 block of Nesbitt Drive in North Chesterfield is charged with reckless driving.

No injuries were immediately reported, Molnar said.

All power lines were cleared from the road, and asphalt was still being placed into the left and center lanes of southbound I-95 that were milled overnight.

All northbound lanes and the right lane of southbound I-95 re-opened at approximately 6 a.m.

All lanes were reopened around 9:30 a.m., according to VDOT.
