Modern technology helped police track down a suspected thief Friday in Fredericksburg.

City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said a King George County man was at Hyperion Espresso at 301 William St. about 8:40 a.m. when he realized that someone had stolen his iPhone valued at $800.

The victim went to the Visitors Center and was allowed to use a computer there to activate the tracking device on the phone. He tracked the phone to various downtown locations for the next hour or so.

The tracking finally stopped at Micah Ministries at 1013 Princess Anne St. Police went there and with the assistance of the staff found the phone in a man’s pocket at 10:12 a.m., Bledsoe said.

Taurean Estah Hansley, 30, who has no fixed address, was charged with felony larceny. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $1,000 bond.

Hansley has been been arrested by city police multiple times over the past couple of years, court records show, including at least once for trespassing at Hyperion.
