Man, 23, hit by car in Spotsylvania

A 23-year-old Woodford man was struck by a car while walking in the roadway on U.S. 1 in Spotsylvania County late Saturday, state police said.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said a 53-year-old Fredericksburg man was driving north about a mile north of Hudgins Road when his 2008 Chevrolet Impala struck a pedestrian in the right lane.

Michael Lee Hare, 23, of Woodford was taken to the trauma center at Mary Washington Hospital. He was in critical condition on Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Trooper L.L. Batten is investigating the incident. No charges had been filed as of Monday.
