Reception will kick off Cedar Mountain commemorations

James Robertson,  Frank Stringfellow and Jeb Stuart IV will be special guests at an Aug. 3 reception to kick off two weekends of activities to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Mountain.

The reception, to be held from 5–7 p.m. at the Daniel Technology Center in Culpeper, will be followed by the première performance of “Marching Through Culpeper,” a multimedia show based on Virginia Morton’s Civil War novel of the same name. Six performances of the play will be held at Eastern View High School on Aug. 3–5 and Aug. 10–12.

The anniversary will also be marked by walking tours, luncheons, a tour of Salubria, a symposium featuring Civil War authors and a commemoration ceremony on the actual battlefield.

The deadline to buy tickets ($95 each) to the Aug. 3 reception is Friday. The ticket includes the reception,  a reserved ticket to the opening performance of “Marching Through Culpeper” and an intermission buffet.

Robertson is a noted Civil War scholar. Stringfellow and Stuart are the great-grandsons of the famous Confederate scout and calvary officer of the same names, respectively.

Advance individual tickets to the play are $18 for adults and $9 for those under the age of 18.

Tickets at the door are $20 for adults and $10 for those under 18. Tickets are good at any performance.

All proceeds will benefit battlefield preservation efforts. For more information, call 540/825-5549 before 8 p.m.
