Nap behind the wheel leads to teenager’s arrest
BY KEITH EPPS
A napping teen was taken to jail early Saturday shortly after being awakened by a Stafford County deputy, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Vernon Galyen was eastbound on Garrisonville Road in North Stafford about 12:35 a.m. when he noticed a vehicle apparently preparing to turn onto Onville Road.
Galyen turned around and got behind the vehicle and noticed that it still hadn’t moved after several light cycles.
Kennedy said the deputy got out of his cruiser and found that the driver was sleeping behind the wheel.
He continued dozing as Galyen knocked on his window, but Galyen finally managed to wake up the driver and got him to open the door.
The driver told Galyen that he had pulled into Wawa to pick up a friend, Kennedy said. But there was no Wawa in the area, though there was a 7–Eleven a short distance away.
Jordan Oboczk, 18, of Stafford was later charged with driving while intoxicated, underage possession of alcohol and possession of marijuana, all misdemeanor charges. Kennedy said the marijuana was found during a search of the vehicle.
Oboczk was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
