An alert neighbor helped Fredericksburg Police catch two suspects who were stealing items from an apartment Saturday in broad daylight, police said.

City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the incident occurred Saturday in the 400 block of Weston Lane in the Fall Hill Apartments complex.

A resident called police at 1:20 p.m. and reported that she was looking out of her window watching two suspicious men carrying electronic items into the woods.

Officer Crystal Wilson and others arrived a short time later and found two men still in the area who matched the descriptions police had gotten. While police were talking to the suspects, the victim came home and found that his bedroom had been broken into.

A television, a laptop computer and a blue-ray disc player belonging to the victim were among the items found stashed about 200 yards into the woods, Bledsoe said. The victim’s bedroom door had been locked but had apparently been kicked in while he was away.

Grant Proctor, 23, of Stafford County and Antron Kelly, 21, of Woodbridge were both charged with burglary and placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The two suspects are friends with the victim’s female roommate, but Bledsoe said there is no evidence that she had anything to do with the theft. There was no apparent forced entry to the apartment.
