Arizona fugitive arrested in Westmoreland
A fugitive wanted on sex crimes in Arizona was arrested in Westmoreland County.
Deputy Donald Jones Jr. of the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that a man wanted on various sex crimes in Arizona was in the Colonial Beach area.
According to Sheriff C.O. Balderson, Jones located the man at a relative’s house in the 100 block of Azure Drive in the Placid Bay subdivision in Oak Grove. He was arrested without incident.
Andrew K. Hayes, 20, is charged with four counts of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of sexual abuse against a child.
The charges were filed in the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa, Ariz., and the crimes are alleged to have occcured between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2011, Balderson said.
Hayes is being held in the Northern Neck Regional Jail pending extradition.
Balderson stressed the importance of public input to keep communities safe.
“This is a prime example of the public and law enforcement working together as a collective unit to apprehend and remove an individual wanted on various sex crimes from our community,” he said.
