Downtown Federicksburg 4th
7:30 Registration started at 6:45 a.m . for the Heritage Festival 5 Mile outside of the visitors center on Caroline Street. Runners are now lining up at the start line. Organizer Bob Lang said they “are always worried about the heat” and have “600 pounds of ice and water everywhere.”
7:45 The runners are off! Bert Jacoby, winner of the Historic Half, in the front.
8:00 Fifteen minutes into the race. The finish line is being set up with water and fruit for the runners and spectators are gathering there.
8:15 Number 76, Will Christian of Virginia Beach comes in first at the Heritage 5 Mile. At around 26 minutes. He is followed closely by Jacoby.
8:25 The first female finisher is local Olivia Mills clocking in around 30. Find the rest of the winners here.
9:30 The finish line has been dismantled and awards have been given out. The Heritage Parade starts in a few minutes.
9:40 Parade comes down Caroline Street with lots of red, white and blue decorated bicycles.
10:00 People are pouring in to downtown’s heritage festival on Sophia and perpendicular side streets. There are vendors selling food and crafts as well as children’s games.
11:00 The Rappahannock River Raft Race starts in thirty minutes at Falmouth Waterfront Park and ends at the city dock. Setup is underway.
11:30 Over a dozen rafts have set off from Falmouth. Keep an eye on the city docks for a winner in about 10 minutes or so.
12:00 Winner Karl Schiebe crosses the line with “team trophy.” Schiebe has won the race every year he’s competed. More teams crossing the finish line at the city docks now.
