VDOT update

RICHMOND—Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews have been working through the weekend clearing downed trees and debris from roads impacted by Friday night’s and yesterday’s storms.  Nearly 250 roads are impacted statewide.  Sections are closed or partially blocked mainly due to downed power lines. Once utility crews remove the power lines, then VDOT can get the trees and other debris out of the way.

Interstates are clear and open.  Most of the roads impacted are secondary or neighborhood streets. The hardest hits areas are in the Salem and Lynchburg regions.

Due to widespread power outages, many traffic signals are out, particularly in Northern Virginia.

VDOT is preparing for another round of storms, including hail storms, later today.   Storms are expected to hit the southwestern part of the state the hardest.
