Stafford declares a state of emergency

Stafford Administrator Anthony J. Romanello has declared a local state of emergency for the county as a result of last night’s storm.
More than 50,000 people in Stafford are without power, and power companies are saying that power could be out for a number of days, said county spokeswoman Cathy Vollbrecht.
County officials have opened a cooling shelter in Rodney Thompson Middle School.
Vollbrecht said that there have been no reports of injuries, and the county’s buildings were not damaged.
