Louisa firefighter dies when truck hits tree
A Louisa County firefighter was killed Thursday when his truck struck a tree in a single-vehicle crash.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to a crash reported on U.S. 33, Jefferson Highway, half a mile east of Cedar Hill Road in Louisa County.
According to a State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar, the crash occurred when the driver of a 1992 Ford F–150 pickup truck traveling westbound ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn.
The driver, 21-year-old Charles D. Wilson of Bumpass, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to U.Va. Medical Center in Charlottesville, where he later died.
He was wearing his seat belt, Molnar said.
Wilson was a career firefighter and EMT with the Louisa County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the ongoing State Police investigation, Molnar said.
