A rash of burglaries in Culpeper subdivision

BY DONNIE JOHNSTON

Culpeper town police are investigating several burglaries, attempted burglaries and at least one home invasion that occurred in the Lakeview subdivision area this past weekend.

Sunday morning about 3:45, a homeowner on Holly Crest Drive was awakened by noises and discovered a young heavyset man inside his house.

The homeowner yelled at the intruder and chased him out of the home, according to town public information officer Wally Bunker.

The intruder, who was described as black and wearing a black shirt with a large design on the front, ran down the street and the resident eventually lost sight of him. An X-Box game machine was missing from the home, Bunker said.

An X-Box was also reportedly stolen from a residence on Autumn Ridge Road and two bicycles, which were later recovered nearby, were stolen from a house on Holly Leaf Road.

Bunker added that several other residents in the Lakeview area reported that screens had been removed from windows in what police believe was an attempt to get inside. The screens were found in the yards.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact Crime Solvers at 727-0300 or Detective Luke Altman at 540/829-5507.
