ATM photos show suspect
BY KEITH EPPS
Fredericksburg police hope pictures captured at an ATM machine will help them identify a man who stole a woman’s purse while she was busy trying to save a life.
The 22-year-old victim was on Princess Anne Street in the area of the post office early June 9 when she saw a bleeding man staggering down the street.
The homeless man, who was later charged with destruction of property, had a severe laceration to his arm and eventually passed out from heavy blood loss.
The woman took steps to stop the bleeding and continued working on the man until rescue workers took him to the hospital.
The investigation revealed that, for some reason, the man had put his arm through a window in the 800 block of Princess Anne Street. A trail of blood led from the window.
While the woman was being heroic, police said, someone stole her purse.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the thief tried to use the woman’s credit card several times and finally succeeded at an ATM machine.
Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity is asked to call city police at 373-3122.
