W.Va. accident claims area man
BY LINDLEY ESTES
Fredericksburg-area native James E. Fladung, 21, was killed early Sunday when his car ran off of the road in Hambleton, W.Va., where he resided.
Fladung was a 2009 graduate of Riverbend High School in Spotsylvania County and was a general studies major at West Virginia University.
The crash occurred just after 3 a.m.
According to state police in Elkins, W.Va., Fladung’s 2003 Mazda hit a street sign before going over an embankment and striking a maple tree on U.S. 219.
Fladung was not wearing a seatbelt.
State police said there was no evidence of braking on the road, and they are not sure what contributed to the loss of control of the vehicle. There was no evidence of alcohol.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday at Covenant Funeral Service in Fredericksburg.
The funeral will immediately follow at Covenant. Then family will proceed to Laurel Hill Memorial Park for interment.
The family has asked that memorial donations be made in Fladung’s name to the Salvation Army Fredericksburg Corps.
