Dressing Days sets sign-up

To streamline School Dressing Days, the Interfaith Community Council is holding preregistration for the August event.
Preregistration will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, and Saturday, June 30, at Bragg Hill Family Life Center in Fredericksburg.
Those who sign up will need to verify a current residence in one of the five areas served by the council: Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Verification can be a driver’s license, DMV identification card, lease, utility bill or letter from a social services department.
Verification for the child to receive items at Dressing Days is also required. This can be a birth certificate, Social Security card, passport, DMV identification card, report card or Medicaid card.
After signing up, volunteers will give participants a time slot to shop on Aug. 10 or 11 and assign a confirmation number.
Becky Paul, co-chairwoman of the Interfaith Community Council’s program, said, “We’re trying to eliminate the lines at 6 a.m. and get a handle on the crowd.”
Paul said that last year, the Dressing Days helped 1,600 area children.
During the event in August, children in need are given a new pair of jeans, a new shirt, underwear, socks, shoes and school supplies.
Donations are encouraged during the week of Dressing Days in August, but not before because the organization does not have enough storage space to hold items.
At that time, the program could use backpacks, used clothing appropriate for school-age children and shoes.
Monetary donations to help the event are being accepted now.
