Mayfield block party offers start-of-summer fun for families
Water balloons and a bounce house were favorites for kids at Saturday’s summer kick-off block party in Fredericksburg’s Mayfield neighborhood.
That’s what Jasiyah Grant, 6, and Aziarah Scott, 7, said, after a successful afternoon of playing at the Mayfield Playground on Tyler Street. Jasiyah liked the bounce house because “you get to jump on it,” while Aziarah was partial to the water balloon toss. Why? ” ‘Cause I get wet,” she said.
The block party included games, food and music, along with recognition for the 2012 high school graduates.
Paula Williams said she grew up in Mayfield. Her mother still lives in the neighborhood, but Williams and her kids now live in Caroline County. But they still know everyone in the community, and were excited to spend Saturday at the playground.
“I think it’s great for everyone to come together to just have fun,” said Williams, as she watched her two sons toss water balloons and eat snow cones.
