Germanna Community College receives free office space in Central Park
BY KATIE THISDELL
Germanna Community College will soon have office space in Central Park, rent free.
For three years, The Rappaport Companies will donate space at 1320 Central Park Blvd., across from Funland.
“We’ll now have an address in the city of Fredericksburg,” Germanna President David Sam told City Council this week.
The space will be used for eight to 10 staff members in the college’s Educational Foundation and marketing departments, which are now at the Locust Grove Campus in Orange County.
They will move into the space in late spring or early summer.
No classes will be held in the city offices.
The agreement with The Rappaport Companies is for 23,330 “rentable” square feet, according to Mike Catell, director of Germanna’s Educational Foundation.
The estimated value is $150,000.
“The foundation is very grateful to The Rappaport Companies for this investment in Germanna,” Catell said in a news release. “It’s not only a location for office spaces, it gives us a presence in a densely populated area.”
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Sam thanked the City Council for its support, while listing many of the college’s future plans.
Those include looking for a location in Stafford’s Courthouse area for a full, permanent campus that could serve 10,000 students.
