Slain man is city’s first homicide victim
UPDATE: Homicide suspect in custody
A 28-year-old Fredericksburg man was found dead inside his townhouse early Saturday, the victim of a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
The body of Nathaniel Dywayne Henderson was discovered about 3:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Brock Square in the Central Park Townhomes, city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said. It is the city’s first homicide of the year.
A friend of Henderson’s called 911 after going into the home and finding the victim on the floor bleeding from the head. The man told police he’d gone to visit Henderson about 3:30 a.m. and walked in after getting no answer at the door. Bledsoe said it wasn’t clear when the shooting occurred, but said it apparently happened not long before the friend showed up.
Police believe other people live or stay at the home, but no one else was there Saturday morning. It is unclear how long Henderson had been living there.
Police Saturday were trying to interview other residents in the area to see if anyone saw or heard anything. Anyone with information is asked to call city police at 373-3122.
